for those of you who use tile, i got a few questions...

8tay8 Jun 10, 2004 05:38 PM

ok, i see in a lot of pics that ppl use tile as they're substrate. i use that green repti carpet, and it works fine, but it is not very easy to clean, and i think tile would look nicer.

does the tile absorb heat from a UTH?

where would you get it?

how much does it cost?

thanks!!!

the repti carpit can get the tail and nails cought in it and lead to them getting ripped off. tile holds heat very well, if u get ceramic tiles that is. ceramic is a conductor. u can get it at home depot, its ussually about $2-3 a tile. heres my set up. half tile, half vita sand.

Not even $2 man, what's you're made of Nevin, gold? :D

its like 40 cents if you catch it on sale for smaller 8X8 which are usually easier to arrange and fit.
But they do keep the heat really well, i can take them off and they'll stay warm. Just imagine them like outdoor tiles that heat up in the sun. They dont' have hot spots, i check daily with my hand.
Good luck

home depot has a saw that they cut them with, so take the messurmets of the tank, and have them cut them for you. no problem

ok, so you said ceramic tile right? i'll take measurments, but how big is the ceramic tile? if its like $2 a square , then id like to know if im getting a couple big squares, or a lot of little ones. or is it like one giant peice that the will cut for you? I promise this will be the last question.

just make sure you know the measurements for your tank.

They have LOTs of different kinds, make sure its not like shiny, get some with grit or bumps so they dont' slide around.

But other than that, the skies the limit, if you're mathematically inclined like i am just ask one of the workers to fit the space that you have.
dont' sweat it
well, unless a hardware store is hella far from you
