Kutchie, where are you?

tegu Jun 10, 2004 05:40 PM

Hi Gang, I'm looking for a gentleman named Kutchie who took delivery of several of my adult tegu last year. He also has a Cape-Banded White Throat Monitor. Does anyone know him? Please give him my email. tegu@citlink.net

Buy the way, any Red Ackie experts are welcome to explain the best way to care and perhaps breed these neat little guys and gals. I would be very grateful.

Thank you,
Jim

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

I remember you posted pics of on here awhile back. Smaug I believe, havent heard much about it after the first few posts.
Should be about 4ft long by now.
If he wants care info many of us keep them on here, and a few even breed them, with consistancy.
Personally I like deep digable dirt thats dry on the surface and damp underneath, and its hardpacked dirt, it holds tunnels great. I feed insects (crickets, lobster roaches) as well day old quail, and I use Miner-all as a calcium supplement with insects. My ackie has a 188f basking spot, and uses alot. His cage temps in the winter drop on the cool end to the 60s and in the summer may only drop to the high 80s or into the 90s if its that hot, but I also use a thermostat to prevent excessive ambient temps in this hot weather. I offer him choices, after all Im not gonna tell him what he can do, I allow him to make that decision, after all hes the ackie, therefore the only expert on ackie care.

Smaug didn't make it very long. He was a rescue I happened across. I did all I could think to do to help him but he never fully recovered. I blame myself, I know I missed something. Vet thinks he just finally gave up. I now have 2 rescued bosc and a rescued blackthroat. Man this blackthroat can eat. A friend of yours on another forum told me a great place to order frozen mice and chicks. Guess I can forget about getting a second mortgage lol. I am going by your advise and letting the blackthroat, who I named Fluffy, get used to me. He/she/it has stopped hissing and puffing up and comes to the door now. Fluffy is a eating machine, guessing almost 30 inches now and putting on some decent weight. The previous owner fed only canned cat food. I'm already getting the supplies to redo a walk in closet for a permanent home. 10 x 15 big enough?
Thanks for asking about him and do what samsweet told me, read more. lol

I would suggest checking out the captive FAQ on varanus[dot]net.

As far as breeding goes, it confuses me. It seems hard to stop a good pair from producing. I do think most people fail because they quit and/or don't have a good pair.
