Treating a WC for parasites???????????

Chameleon996 Jun 10, 2004 05:43 PM

I have two Helmeted Iguanas. One I have had for six years and the other I just got a week ago. All Helmeted Iguanas are WC and therefore probably carry parasites and don't usually live more that a couple of months in captivity. I never treated my first one for parasites and since I have had her for so long I don't want to now. However my second one is a different story. She seems healthy, I have seen her eat, drink, and poop. The other day when I stopped at my local pet store the girl working mentioned a powdered parasite medicine. I didn't look at it so I don't know the brand or the proper name, but I do know you dust your crickets with it. Has anyone heard of something like this or used it before?

I really don't like treating unless there's symptoms. However, if you don't treat your new iguana you don't want to expose your old one to it. If you do want to expose them to each other (ie breeding) the best way is to really go to a vet. It's not too expensive, they just need a fecal sample and the meds themselves are pretty cheap. It will probably be under 50$ which is cheap for a lifetime of healthy iguana.
