I would like to put some more animals in with my Uroplatus ebenaui wich are the same size as phantasticus so i know i could put one of them in, but i am thinking... amphibians or some other gecko/bug. Any ideas???? i would love to hear them!!! i have 3 in a 30 gall so i have a bit of room for something else.
Thanks!

For one, think of the chameleon. Chameleons are solitary creatures, that really stress out even when they see their reflections. They are hard to take care of, and most of the pygmy chameleons (Rhampoleon and Brevicaudatus) are wildcaught...gravid, full of parasites, and in many cases, starved. Plus take to the fact that virtually all the chameleons that are available today are from mainland Africa, NOT Madagascar. You should not get another animal for your geckos simply because you want to fill the tank in...

I agree with DJ. Realize that whenever you keep two different species in the same cage you automatically complicate things and introduce both animals to a whole new range of possible problems. Basically put, it's always risky. In order to accomidate two species in one terrarium you almost always have to compromise at least one species care.

There are also ethical considerations. Both Uroplatus, Rhampholeon and Brooksia are rarely offered as captive bred animals. The majority of animals availible are wild caught. How long Madagascar or other African countries will have their borders open to exporting exotic animals is unclear. Every year less seems to be exported. In my mind, it would be irresponsible to risk the well-being of two species of lizards that are not yet established in the herp trade because the keeper either wanted to save room and not get another tank or because they wanted to make a cool display terrarium. It's just not worth it.

Beautiful ebenaui by the way, good luck,

you can put some mantella whit it if you have enouf ground space...

your uroplatus will be in the branch and your frog on the ground.
i see that before mantella madasgarien in a enclosure of a bredding pair of uroplatus fibriatus...

Well you could put mantella frogs in with Uroplatus...if you wanted to spend $25 and a gecko snack. I've watched my U. ebenaui eat adult crickets that are larger than my adult male M. crocea. There is no doubt in my mind that mantella frogs kept with any species of Uroplatus would eventually be eaten.

I agree with the point that you should not do this with reptiles not yet established in the captive pet trade. You could try it with other species though. If you're dead set on getting something with them, get some Rhampholean brevicaudatus or Rhampholean spectrum or Rhampholean temporalis. For care and basic info on any species you're looking into, visit http://adcham.com/html/taxonomy/taxonomy-map.html

You'll also want to get CB specimins ONLY!! from a reputable breeder. No point killing everything because of parasites.

You could also put stick insects in there. Corosius morosus (spell?) or even the big E.T.'s You really could use any stick insect you wanted, I guess whatever you can find.

Mantellas are too small, they'll get eaten. I've heard of pygmy chameleons being kept with larger Dendrobates species, but I've only heard a few cases where people kept them with Uroplatus.

Day geckos might be too agressive, as well as most other geckos, tree frogs are generally 'seek-and-destroy' goal oriented; I don't keep tree frogs, but if you wanted to look into it, go ahead.

Good luck in your ventures, but remember to remain honorable in regards to the propogation of the rarer exotic species in the pet trade. If it doesn't work the first time, don't waste more lives.

WOW, thanks to everyone who has been posting. Lots of good ideas. I will pass on the mantalas and pygmies, but i might look into the other ideas. I agreed that it is not good to put more stuff in a tank just because. This is a display cage that holds my uroplatus and all they do it hide in the bad (although that is what they are suppose to do seeing as how they are nocturnal) so i would like something that is more visible but will not in any way affect my geckos which is why i am taking lots of time and doing research. I am also up for any ideas about takes made with a mixture of animals just because i like to hear of animals that work well together. I know said im not for that and now i am kind of saying i am, but i think it’s basically fine if all the animals exist peacefully.
