I don't think many people producing around 100 snakes buy their rodents, I could be wrong, but I would not want to even guess how much it would cost me to feed all my snakes if I did not produce my own feeders. Some of the big guys producing big money snakes may, I usually buy about 800 jumbos per year to supplement and feed some of my adults, that costs about $1100 per year.
I produce enough mice to support 100 to 150 hatchlings and at the moment, aside from paying for their own food and bedding, my mice and rats also bring in about $25/month on average, not to mention feeding all my snakes for free. If I had to always purchase meals for the snakes, I would probably have sold them all by now and settle for just my pet pool vacuum virgil, he eats pool scum and is VERY inexpensive.

We currently spend around $1600 per year on feeders. Next year we expect to produce around 400 baby snakes and we'll probably have a rodent bill of around $2500.-- Stephen & Jennifer
