Question on ATB belemia (sort of)

Elfunko Jun 11, 2004 04:33 AM

The store has had the ATB for 2 weeks, and for those two weeks he has regurgitated his meal both times. I thought I read on this bb this usually end in certian doom, but I wonder if I can catch it now with your help, can I help him?

P.S. I've been working with him for a week. At first I would be bitten about 5 times, but the last three days I can even take him out of the cage without being bitten. He's pretty tame now. And when he does want to bite he instead just presses his nose against me, like a warning. I really love this snake and want it to live.

P.P.S. The area it is held in is pretty much 85*F and I would guesse the humidity to be about 50-60%.

my 4 suggestions would be

1 stop holding him until he holds a meal
2 don't feed him so frequently (Every 10 days max)
but give him 3 weeks or so before trying again
3 increase the humidity.
4 make sure to feed very small meals

sounds like you have a little different situation than I do
good luck

Hmm, stop holding him eh? I'm sure it does stress him out, and if it will get him to be healthy I will do it. But, when I am not there others might still hold him (well, only one other has the balls, and even he doesn't very often).

i had ATB for 5 years or so and the best thing you can do for them is just feed the and spray them and clean them when you hold them you are taking them out of there humid cage that is how you can start to give them resp-infuction by being wet and dry so i would not hold them if i was you, they are realy not a holding snake you should read urban jungles care sheet it is the best one i have found, it's is like 15pg's long,
hope every thing works out for you

The cage is the same humidity as the hot room. The hot room is a good 85*F at least, I know I sweat when I'm in there. So, to get an infection would be taking him out of the hot room (which I have done). That can be easily avoided though, it's a big room and I don't mind staying in it. But I have stopped holding him, I gave it up for this 15 day lent.
