I'm not really sure if it really was my male leopard gecko that did this, but around 5 am today I heard a swift inhale/exhale noise from the general direction of his tank. When I turned on the light he was sitting on a hide box kinda puffed up with very pale skin. Has anybody noticed their geckos huffing and puffing before they shed? I'd be very surprised if this was caused by a respiratory infection, judging by the way this noise sounded.

I've heard them puffing before not before they shed though
ehehe i thought mine had farted, cuz it just like you described an exhalation of air sound 
I hope yours doesn't have a respiratory problem. Sorry i couldn't help but just share my experience.

hmm are you sure it wasnt just the gecko rubbing up against the hide? it makes a scratchy kinda sound.. i hear it when mine does it when she sheds
