rttlrvenom Jun 11, 2004 01:11 PM

mice breed.

ok iv had these mice since they were weanlings and i have them in a medium size sterilite with good ventilation and a day night cycle in about 65 degrees at a low and mabe 68 at a high. o and its a 1.4 sex ratio they get fresh food and water daily. i do feed dog food as a base but do supplement with other food about twice a week. these mice are breeding size. the females may be pregnant but just dont look it. im in need of some fuzzies for my snakes but as of lately i have to go to the pet shop to get them cuz my mice wont produce mabe i should get another colony going right now i only have this one.

any suggestions on getting these little guys to breed.

Mice can take a month or two to get into breeding. How long has it been. Personally I would,(I know it sounds dumb) make sure you have a male in there. Otherwise I bet you have someone get huge by the time it is 6 wks. since set up.

I really wouldn't do that (put the females in with a new male). I have rarely had a good experience with introducing a new mouse (of any sex) to a colony. I think most of the other posters here will agree with me on this. I feel your pain on the delay but, really, give them a good 2 months from the time they are of breeding age. If you have the space, and don't mind the smell, I would go ahead and start another 1.4 colony. With that, within 3 months you will be freezing extra pinks and fuzzies.

Just realize that if you change boys that it may take another month to get going. I would leave them be a bit longer.
