Best way to stun a rat?

prprjp Jun 11, 2004 02:16 PM

I have a few ball pythons that refuse thawed rodents but also seem to get freaked out by small to medium sized rats. They will eat live rat pups without a problem but I can't see them gaining much weight until they learn to accept larger rats.

I think I will try to stun a small rat and see if my balls will take it that way. Can anyone recommend a good way of stunning a small rat?

TIA, Ryan

i know this sounds cruel but id get a pair of leather gloves grab the rat you want to feed by the tailfind a hard surface (iv used the floor on my unfinished basement) and just give them a little wack not hard enough to cause instant death but enough to knock them out. or if you have a rubber mallet grab the rat by the tail and thump them on the head hard enough to knock them out.

iv use the knock out method before doing spinal severing cuz the mice always squirm out of the pinner.

hope this helps

I too find the garage floor a very sutable surface for bashing them.

Cervical Dislocation. It's quick, easy to learn, and IMHO, more humane than "bashing".
