Mealworm Qs......................................

ScalyHavenReps Jun 11, 2004 11:21 PM

OK,
So I've decided to start up my mealworm colonies again.........

I was just wondering how everyone else does it??????

I want to use bran, but it's so annoying getting them out of the substrate!

I want to be able to sift them out quickly, not pick through bedding!!!!!!

Any tips or tricks??

THANKS!!!!!!!!

get some aluminum or fiberglass screen and a small would frame (a foot square is big enough). Use a hand or clean dustpan to scoop out a mass of worms/bran, drop it on the screen and sift (shake) it. This should let most of the bran to fall through but leave the mealworms ontop of the screen.

I use chick layena from the feed store. (Chick mash)
I also had for extra moisture potato slices, lettuce, and tomato.
It works really good.
Also a kitty litter sifter works great for getting them out.
