What do you think of my Setup?

dc516 Jun 12, 2004 06:03 AM

alright, so i just got my tempgun from proexotics, definitly worth the 30 bucks i spent. now i need some help/input.

Background info: Monty's eaten both of the fuzzies ive offered since ive had him, never refused or had a problem feeding him yet. i watched him drink water for the 1st time also right after i fed him yesterday, put him back in the tank and he went right for the water. I think he is pretty comfortable with me so far, he was in my hand as i slowly was putting him into the sterilite box to feed and struck the fuzzy in the box from my hand. He is really active most of the time moving around the tank unless he just ate (which he just did in this picture) where he is in the pic is where he is about 90% of his time when not active.

ive written in what temps came up with tempgun. he doesnt really use the hide for the most part(one he is right in front of), not anymore atleast, he used it quite a bit the 1st 2-3 days i had him.

so the hide is right on the center of the heatpad(covers about 1/4 of the tank 36x12x12), the substrate is reptibark. should i move the hide off the center of the pad to a spot around 80-85ish? like farther back? the other larger hide he uses more as a perch. im also thinking of taking out all the moss in the tank except for in the large hide where i keep drenched then squeezed moss in as my humid hid. ive noticed that if he does use the "hot hide" he only goes in for awhile, no longer then 20-30 mins.

Hatchlings don't like too warm of temps. I would go no higher than 85F on the hot spot. One it gets a little larger it will spend more time in the 90's. 80F-85F is good.

Good luck,
Chad

Monty seems happy! You're a good BP Parent!
Only question I have is: did you sand down the rough edges of the clay pot? They can get pretty sharp and clay pots can flake off very small and sharp pieces....

Good Luck!

The hides should be MUCH more shallow. Your ball should have to squeeze into it due to the limited height. You will find that a tight shallow hide will be utilized extensively by your ball, and no doubt greatly appreciated.

i guess i wanted to give him a mansion on one side and a spacious house on the other, lol

i think i'll go get a base, save the bigger one for when he gets older, although i think he is quite fond of the big one on the cool side, he's always climbing from it or hanging out on top of it.

You don't have to take it out, maybe just also add a better sized hide on that side as well. So he can hide in the new hide and climb on the old one.

He will probably not use it as long as the temps are 90-100F. Move the hide over an 80-85F spot until he gets a little larger.

ok i removed all the moss i had all over the tank, it looked prettier with it but i was worried about misting it all the time and bacteria/mold growing. also right on top of the UTH the reptibark was kinda thin so i moved some from the cool side of the tank on top of it, the temp dropped a few degrees. i just didnt want 100 temps inside the tank. i also moved the smaller hide on top of an area that ranged 80-90

As long as he is eating well, he is happy (even if he doesn't hide).
