Which subspecies do I have.....

amazinglyricist Jun 12, 2004 11:48 AM

I recently obtained a box turtle from my girlfriends brother who found it around florida, and at first I thought it was a 3 toed box turtle, but it has 4 toes on the back feet, the shell and skin is all brown or black except for a little bit of yellow under it's neck. Could this be a hybrid between the 3 toed and another subspecies of the eastern or do 3 toeds just have 4 toes on their back feet on occasion?

Go to www.chelonia.org and check out their photo galary. Although an occasional three-toed might have four toes, you might have a Florida box turtle or intergrade.
