Hello...I got a baby ball at a pet store (felt bad for it) and it was covered with mites (I could see about 10 mites). I soaked him, and got a lot of them off. I got a product called "Mite Off". It says it contained Sodium Lauel Sulfate and some different oils. Does this stuff work? Is it very toxic? The ingredient list looks like shampoo!

Unless you have a chronic and severe mite problem, I would stay away from the mite sprays. I would suggest to you that you try to agressively treat you're snake in a water and iodine povidine solution mixture (about 2-3 drops of iodine in you're bathroom sink). Try to treat the snake twice a day. After bathing the snake, pour mineral oil in a cotton ball and wipe down the snake. Use q-tips to swab the snake's pits.

Make sure that you also throughly clean the snake's enclosure. If you have any wood in the enclosure get rid of it. The wood attracts the mites. If you have a glass tank enclosure (10-20 gallon tank) wipe down the glass and ends in mineral oil as well. Do this and you should be able to get rid of you're problem. Dont waste you're money on mite sprays.

I had a severe mite problem myself, I tried the treatment I specified above and my mite problem was gone in 4 days. I had this problem about a year ago, and I have never had a problem since. Hope this helps.

Yes, and keep him in a pretty bare tank with nothing but a couple plastic hides and paper towels as substrate.

I am pretty sure its hard to find, but i got some and it did wonders for my Balls. I had mites and seemed like all my Balls were in their water dishes more tank out of them. Got a can of Black Knight and sprayed like each tub for a 1/2 second and in a day, no more mites and have been mite free for close to 6 months now... John

What a tragic ploy by the other treatment vendor. I wonder if there's anything else with a similar formula, or if you can buy a concentrate (non aerosol) anywhere?

How come you guys can't say what's up w/the product on this board? Who makes the product? Is it THAT good of a product? Hmmm. Same thing happened with the BEST treatment product for my saltwater fish, too. Suddenly, it was just banned. I hate that.

People are affraid to say what's going on in public. Its a butthead that owns a company that makes mite killer that is not very good and has dibs on an ingredient of the product that is better, so since his is patented, he has(or thinks he does) the right to force the other company from making it till they come up with a deal to share profits on it or just keep them down till they have to close. Give or take, thats whats happening from what i was told... John
