How long does Heat Tape take to warm up?

nightvip Jun 12, 2004 01:18 PM

Was wondering because I'm pretty sure its wired right and I guess I was just expecting some heat sooner than later.

as soon as you plug it in the heat should start.takes a few minutes to reach maxmium temps.beanfarm.com has a illustrated guide to wireing in series.are you wireing a cage or rack? have fun!

Wiring for my new moonstruck cages. I think its just going to take longer because its not the usual stuff its the 22" version. I actually was able to use my multimeter and it does have juice flowing through it. (Side note, I tested the ends that the connectors are not on and was surprized that the little tiny bit of exposed metal still can let an alligator clip pick up electricity on it..have to insulate it also now)

heat tape comes in 3',4' and 11'.are you talking about two runs of 11' tape? are you getting heat now? when ever you cut heat tape you must seal the end, electrican tape works.

No I'm talking 22". You can't get it as a regular consumer but I'm pretty sure bussinesses can get it directly from the factory. Its 22" by 18". I know you have to insulate it, I was just commenting on I didn't think it would be that easy to attach my clips and get a reliable voltage from the little itty bit of exposed metal. (I'm a EE)
