Just a Question

victor_1616 Jun 12, 2004 05:21 PM

I have a female veiled chameleon. On a recent visit to a pet store i saw a male veiled that was very colorfull and big. I was just wondering why isnt mine like that? Thank-you in advance for all responses.

Females are generally smaller and do not have the same coloration/brightness. Males show brightly when they are stressed and/or displaying for a female. Females do change when stressed or receptive (for mating). It's possible that his bright colors are due to a stressful environmnet in the pet store (they often do not give proper housing and care.

I will add to that,
Males will show bright colours also when excited around feeding time or something else, when defending territory or when trying to cool themselves off. Not all males are similarly coloured, either. Some can be quite dull wihle others are very fluorescantly coloured.
