OK, guys, help me out here. We are moving next month to a house with 1 acre, approx. 1/3-1/2 of which will be fenced off into an open, sunny, pasture area. We will need to either get a tractor/mower (no fun), sheep (boring), goats (more interesting, but not big grass eaters), or possibly, a sulcata. We would of course build an outdoor/year-round heated shed, and the tortoise would have free access to the entire pasture area. We are in Northern California, so summers are warm and dry, and winters are cool and wet (30" of rain). The lot slopes and the soil looks like it would drain fairly quickly.
My questions:
1) Would this be enough room for a full-size sulcata?
2) Would one sulcata be enough to keep the pasture grass at a reasonable level?
3) Is our climate suitable enough for a sulcata, even with the wet winters, considering a shed/house would be available?
I'd appreciate any opinions as to whether this is feasible. BTW, my vet does make house calls! Thanks!
