seperated dragons questions

froggystyle34 Jun 12, 2004 06:14 PM

Hey i seperated Bob and Margret since i finally got the other cage done. I did this yesterday and all Bob has been doing is looking at Margrets cage with a pitch black beard and Margret is meaner than normal now. What is the deal? Will they get over it or what?

Thanks
ken

If seeing each other is upsetting them now, I guess the best thing to do is put the cages side by side, or somewhere they just can't see each other. I can imagine it would be frustrating for them to not be able to interact once they've gotten used to each other. If they can't see each other, I don't think it would take long for them to forget and get over it.

most people will tell you BDs are not social animals, that they can live out their lives in solitude. Well that may be true in most cases BUT not all BDs follow that rule. I had one BD that grew up with a brother and sister. when they reached 6 months of age I seperated them. The male stopped eating and became depressed. a monh later after force feeding was not working to put weight on him, I moved him in with 2 other BDs. He immediately started eating again and his color improved. he bagan running around the cage and was active and growing.

there are general rules and guidelines but every BD is different and the rules don't apply to everyone.

You're just jealous because the voices are talking to me not you!

well i seperated them because he was always biting her on the head, and i thought thats what they do when they are ready to breed, but then he made her eye bleed, and after paying a 100 bucks for a vet to tell me to put neosporin on it i seperated them. should i put them back together or what?

in this case I would definately keep hem seperated and have a visual barrier as well. You may need to move tem to seperate rooms as well since they re able to sence other animals. The male may also bob and get upset at his own reflection in the glass so you may need to dirty up the walls a bit.

good luck

Why do we say something is out of whack? What's in whack?

he doesnt bob or get upset or anything his beard just turns pitch black, when i take him out and let him see her his beard goes to normal. she was calming down a bit not she is pissy again. i dont know what to do i was thinking of thuring both cages into a two storie cage with heat gradient in both of them and an access hole so they can go in both cages to be seperated if they wanted to. so basically i will cut a hole in top of the 4x2 and a hole in the bottom of the 40x20 and put a climbing device inside it to get in and out. worse case scenario is i have to put a spacer or something to keep them seperated. i dont know what do you think.
