New to corn snakes. A little advice please?

Gene Jun 19, 2003 08:34 AM

Hey all.

I am Gene. I have been hanging out on the monitor forum for a couple of years now, yes I keep the beasts too

Anyway, I just bought a couple of baby Okeetee corns. Very pretty little animals. I really like them. My question is one of them is a little biter. Is that normal? I know I am very intimidating to the little one but geezzz I get popped every time I turn around. It's funny now but probably won't be later. Is it normal for little ones to be aggressive/defensive? Will they out grow it? Is there anything I can do to help work it out?

Thanks for any help offered.

Yes, they will most likely outgrow it. I would pretend it isn't happening. Not hard considering how much 'damage' they do. You will realize some time this fall that the little cuss isn't doing it anymore.

I have had Boas, Pythons, Monitors & more monitors all with out incident or bites. I go to the "calm & docile" animals and first thing I get whacked. Go figure

This is my buddy Yoshi. 2 years and the only scars I have from him are from those horrid claws of his.

Thanks for your help!

I think it figures totally.

But at least the corns won't ever be able to do the damage....And any I have had have outgrown it.
Now I did get given a 3yo Black Ratsnake female that is just plain psycho. She is a LTC, caught at less than a year. But never outgrew the need to bite whenever. I have only had her a few months and she shows no signs of changing her tendencies drastically. So I don't stick my face near her.

Not sticking your face near her.

I have heard some of them (rat snakes) can be pretty unruley. I like the huge snakes too like the pythons & anacondas but not only do I not have room, I don't feel like getting popped by one of those guys.

Thanks again for your help.

Yeah, unruly. Like terriers are not aggressive....they are assertive!

She is one of my unruly ones. Thankfully she is also never gonna be big enough to really hurt me...except in the face. I know someone who got hit in the face by a bigger boa and it was not really fun.
To my black rats defense I did notice that she has a 'weird' eye and may have a vision problem that is not helping her temper. She is just a sensitive soul.
