dry food for juvies?

btorgy May 13, 2003 10:35 PM

Been reading the posts re: dry food. Is this safe for juvies as well? I have two young mali's, and I sometimes give them Pretty Bird Finch food, plus some hydrated lentils. Amongst vegies and greens, though they don't really go for the greens much. [] I know greens should be basic, but they just don't go for them. But I keep offering them in hopes they will catch on. I've tried collard, endive, romaine, hibiscus, nasturtium. Any other thoughts? Thanks!

I've owned 7 different Uros over the years - but I'm no expert by any means. One thing for sure though - you can not make a Uro eat something...even if all of the care sheets say that they love that food. You are doing the right thing by offering a variety of items but some are very picky. I have one that will only eat green leaf lettuce...won't touch collards, kale or anything else. I've got others that love insects and cagemates of the same species that won't give them a second look. Everyone on these forums report that their Uros love flowers and blossoms...none of mine will touch them. Just keep trying, if you find something they'll eat, and they are healthy, you're fine. If they seem to not eat ANYTHING, well that's a different story and may point to other health-related problems. Just my experience.

Yeah, uros can be picky. I have two, and here is a list of food one likes yet the other won't touch: bee pollen, collard greens, dandelions, clover, clover flowers, grass blooms, snow peas, turnips greens. You can see my point. Just about the only thing they will both eat is peas and insects.
