I have a Beautiful 7 yr old 'Rosy Rat' (looks very suspiciously like the 'caramel corns' I've seen in pics) who has so graciously mated with my Great Plains Rat. also nearing 7 years. My beautiful girl has only laid once before, two years ago and none of those eggs hatched out. There were 6 eggs but, they got some type of super tiny translucent worms on them after they had been sweating and so we reluctantly disposed of them and decided to try again the next year. Any ideas on what they were? These eggs were in the hovabator and not bothered except to check humidity. the worms didn't show up until day 51. The next year she hadn't gained a lot and was not interested in my male at all so we chose to let her be to get up to par for breeding and left her alone.
My other reason for posting: Last night at 11:08 she began laying. I've got five very large beautiful eggs and she doesn't seem to have anymore eggs hiding inside her. I'd like to know, does anyone here know if Emoryi eggs take longer to hatch than the Elaphe Gutatta? If so what has your experience been on the length of time it takes? She is very small as far as snakes go due to being a trouble eater as a hatchling and well into adolescence. Over the past two years she has gained in length but not much in girth so I'm guessing that is why such a small clutch
(except when she was gravid LOL)
Anyways, I know this is a lot of questions and info but I could use the help. During my online research I haven't read anything that answers my questions and I haven't been to the book store lately.
Thanks,
Anxious mommy
