Hey L,
I know of quite a few people in Europe that have the mexican species but no one else currently in the states. I flew over to Germany and legally imported taurus and asio. They are very interesting and are doing very well for me so far. Breeding them has not been a problem. The most difficult part is raising the tiny babies. I posted pics of the taurus mating awhile back and will try to get one of the asio as they are currently in the process.

Hey Jeff, how many babies have you been able to hatch of the mexican horned lizard and how did they turn out? What do you do with the babies: keep them for further study, sell them, or release them? How did you go about legally importing them? I go to Mexico on some occasions and if given the opportunity I would really love to be able to import a pair legally. Thanks in advance for your reply. Good luck on the asio.

Louie-I understand that Mexico is not importing their animals. I'm sure Jeff would have went through that artena if it was open. The europeans have been breeding many animals for decades that are ot commonly bred in the U.S.

Production of young has been limited to a few so far, but things are looking good for this year. I have kept all the young so far. To import them from Europe I set up an appointment with fish and wildlife and filled out a 3-177 form. They will inspect the lizards to determine if the animals are legal to clear them for entry. You must also go through customs and may be liable for taxes depending on how much you paid for them. From what I understand importing from Mexico is very difficult. You need to be collaborating with a Mexican Biologist and conducting scientific research.
