I'd start by looking at basic husbandry issues. What is his basking surface temp? Cool side? He should be eating way more than that. Have you had a fecal done to rule out parasites? You said that you don't give multivit, do you at least give calcium supplement? If he hasn't already, I'd take him in to the vet for a checkup and fecal, something sounds wrong.

Something is stunting his growth. There are many things that can cause this, but no one can really help you based on the little information you've given. You need to give details.

What are the temps? What is the substrate? How often are you supplimenting w/ calcium? Has he had a fecal? Has he been to a vet about this? Were you only giving him 12 crickets a day, or was that all he was willing to eat?

Well, first off, if your feeding it superworm mealies, They have pretty much zero nutitional value. What type of "salad" are you feeding? 12" is extreamlly small for 9 months. Get some para-zap and treat the dragon.

the salad contains: collard, mustard, and turnip greens, carrots, broccoli, bd pellets, and prick pear flavored cube treats with t-rex vgf salad dust. usually my bd gets crix.

huh? no! i could of sworn i asked a question on this thread, and my beardies 12 inches long and eats superworms and is close to nine months old!

kephy Jun 14, 2004 06:36 PM

Superworms are ok for a treat as long as they aren't too big for your beardie. If he's getting crix more regularly that's fine. Still, something is not right for him to be so small... has he been to a vet recently to get checked for parasites or anything?

Could it a be that I havent ever gave him multivitamins.DONT FREAK.Igot some today and I sent in for silkworms.Since hes getting picky I thought I might as well feed him healthy worms. His basking is about 90/ /cool side 80.he gets calcium every other day.he hasot been to the vet.I would like to know a good one in Dallas/Fort worth Metroplex 75052.He would usually only eat 2 crickets, but he could eat 35 mealworms.

kephy Jun 14, 2004 09:20 PM

I'm not positive about the multivitamins. I know that not having them can have bad longterm results, but I don't know if that specifically would stunt his growth. Maybe a more experienced keeper can answer that. It's good you're getting him on that now, you're on the right track. I definately think you should get his basking spot a little higher, more like 105-110F. That may increase his appetite a good deal.

As for vets, you are in luck! I live in DFW and I happen to think I have the best vets EVER. The place is called Preston Road Animal Hospital, they are part of the Chastain Veterinary Medical Group. They are off of Preston and 635. Here is their website. prah.com/

There are 4 doctors there, but 2 of them I see regularly and I would certainly recommend. Dr. Matt Murphy is very smart, really knows his reptiles, and is an all around great guy. He's a fast talker though, so be sure you have your ears on! LOL!
Dr. Erin Tate is possibly one of the most caring and loving vets I've ever met. She also knows a great deal about reptiles. Both of them have at some point treated one of my reptiles, and their techniques and opinions are very consistent with each other. The entire staff is great and these people have always given my pets the time and care they would no doubt give their own pets. I would recommend them to anyone with no hesitation at all.

If you do go there, tell them Amanda Hodges sent you and I get free goodies. That isn't why I recommend them though, I honestly think the world of these people, they've helped me and my pets through more than you can imagine.

Good luck!
