substrate question

right now i use play sand as a substrate and i have seen a ton of ppl say it is not good to use it and also it is really heavy becauzse i use it in a 55 gallon tank. what is a good substrate to use instead of sand.. i would not liek to use paoer towels or cartpet or anything like that thats looks really fake. thanks

Then stick with playsand. All the safest substrates are going to look "fake."

Personally, I don't care so much how natural my cage looks, but how safe my pets are. That is my deciding factor. I didn't get them because of how their cage looks in my house.

use gentle touch or any cat litter made of brown pellets that are biodegradable and safe to ingest. it may not look as natural as sand but it looks more natural than newspaper
