Hi Thomas,
I'm not very familiar with NC but I'd be very surprised if one of the major cities would not have a major plastic supplier. It would be as easy as getting a phone book from one of these cities and making some calls after looking under "plastic".
That's what I did when I was living in Lincoln, Nebraska. I got an Omaha phone book and called every plastic supplier listed. I eventually found 1/2" expanded PVC at a price cheaper than what it would cost to buy the 1/4" online. Given how much easier the 1/2" material is to work with it was an easy decision.
Of course I never did get around to starting the project as I was getting mixed information on how much the 1/2" weighed.
