regurgitating meals

sandfireman Jun 13, 2004 08:42 PM

hey guyz and gals, my 2 year old male cali king has been acting a little strange for the past couple weeks. About 3 weeks ago i fed him a live, yes live mouse, ( the mouse is never left unsupervised in the cage ), any way...he ate it just fine and about 4 days later i found a fresh stool in the cage, i cleaned it out, but then the next day i found the mouse regurgitated inside his hidebox because something started to stink up my room. He has done this for the last 2 mice i have fed him. The temps are fine, he has hiding places and i dont startle him ever. But why does he keep throwing up? This happened last year around this time but that was when I fed him a frozen rat pup. IM not that worried but any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, chris k.

P.S. I didn't hibernate or breed him this year, but could he have girls on his mind, thanks again.

Since there are no apparent environmental changes, I would suspect a medical problem. Two things I would do immediately would be 1] watch him for any other unusual symptoms or behavioral changes, and 2] bring him down to smaller food items. If he usually eats adult mice, drop to hoppers; if you have him on hoppers, try fuzzies. Pre-kill the hopper. If he continues to regurge, or if you notice other unusual symptoms, you'll probably need to consider a visit to a herp vet. Good luck, I hope this helps.
