Bashing A Name...

JohnZ Jun 13, 2004 11:18 PM

I do not want anyone to think i am in any way minimizing what Morph King has done. I think they are on the cutting edge when it comes to Balls. I think they are very creative. I think in general they are good guys(and girls if any are there).

But i am bashing the name. I think they just thought about it too long and hard and just went too far. I think simple in this case is better.

So Morph King, please do not think i am bashing you and all. I just hate the name, not the product. Thanks for all the images and work to make this real... John

but until then who care's..They created it, let them name it..Everyone is like just keep it simple and call it a pastel x mojave but honestly with the name pastave it has already gotten a tremendous amount of attention (with people just complaining about the name) and that's exactly what they wanted...A pastel x spider is called a bumblebee and a snow as everone knows is an albino x axanthic, but no where in the title of "snow" does it even say or hint at what made it..So why keep it simple?? No matter what the name of a new morph is people are going to know what it is and call it what they want...I think honestly some of the other big breeders that are telling them to keep it simple are just upset because they weren't able to create it first and get all the publicity...This is like the jealousy towards RDR in some of the earlier posts by bigger breeders in the thread that was about him hatching the 2 or 3 lucy's a few days back...Some breeders congradulated him (mainly the one's that bought a lesser from him last yr. or earlier) but others were hostile..It just goes to show that this former hobby is now a money driven market and everyone (well almost everyone) is wishing that they have this or that they can make that...I don't care who creates what as long as it's created and that's how the others should feel too...Everytime a new morph or a new cross is created or discovered it makes the market that much more stable by attracting new individuals to the world of ball pythons...You can wish and one hand and crap in the other, which one fills up faster??..So congrats MKR, Wes and Joe!! If you guys are considering changing the name because no one on ks really seems to like it, DON'T...I say keep it to just annoy and aggitate them!!

Murphinski Jun 14, 2004 08:26 AM

Pastave is more simple than Pastel Mojave...(no. of syllables)......but it sounds retarded..JMO. But you're right....they can and should call it whatever they want.....first to hatch one and nothing but congrats to Joe and Wes for it as well. But not jealous.

So what's next??????..Pienos..Clowpos..True Ghosts.......

Nothing against the breeders and so on but who the hell names a ball python the "Fire Ball".

John

Well, if you're going to name it that at least have it look a LITTLE bit like fire. I expected bright reds, organges, yellows... boy was I dissapointed.

I cannot believe that this has gotten so much attention. Has anyone ever questioned the naming of a morph so strongly? As someone pointed out their are Bumblebees, Killerbees, Snows, Lemon Blast (I'm probably wrong about that name, think that is what I heard a Pastel Pinstriped was called), and none of these names let anyone know what it is. But the first to produce the animals gave them the name they liked. I'm sure their are planty of Mojave breeders that chose to devote their Pastel females to make Super Pastels instead of going for this new morph and since you were not the first to create it, Get Over It!!! It takes alot of nerve to have to put your 2 cents into something that does not go your way. Try creating the new morphs before you are entitled to name them. I actually have to admit that I came up with this name and was hoping to create one myself this year. I had bought a Mojave and was hoping he would get to breeding size and breed with my Pastel female. I ended up wimping out on the wait and bred my Albino to my Pastel (only other male I have, except a left over male hatchling from last year). I had talked to them through email and SK who both tried and failed in 2003. I really hoped I had the chance to hatch one and that is what I would of called it. If someone beat me too it, I defintiely wouldn't complain or whine about it... I would congratulate them for something extremely well done and hope I had such luck. Congratulations Morph King!
Thanks, Tom Baker

I agree with you. They did it ...... they named it!!!!!

Great job MK and great name.

No we got that done who will define the different types of Lucies....... and naming them.
Could some of the Lucies be sterile? Got to wait a few years yet.

I agree with both of you. But the guy produced them should name them....and when you say bumblebee spider.....what is that? maybe Pasder would be neat? Hey who cares.......????

You are right, they came up with it 1st and i guess they have that right to name it. But also, we as the public have the right to change the name through use of another name that catches on better.

Campell's Soup came up with a soup call(they made it 1st and named it) Chicken Soup with Noddles, guess what? A few years later after the public did not buy it and when it was asked for people used a different name, they renamed it Chicken Noodle Soup(all this happened back in the 1930's). As we know it today. So just because someone names it does not mean it sticks, marketing has a huge part in it.

Other than drama, its up to all of us what it will be called... John

I agree, it sucks. No thought or maybe too much thought went into it. But, as it goes, its a fredom we all have to call it what we wish, it will someday come around and be called a Pastel Mojave... John
