albino chain kings hatching!

rtdunham Jun 19, 2003 11:01 AM

I was surprised last night to find that my albino & het/albino eastern chain kingsnake eggs had begun hatching. They were laid 4/20 and my snake room, where they're incubating, is 80 degrees F., according to the thermometer I trust most (3-degree range among 4 thermometers!) So incubation took approx 59 days. I had expected closer to 65 at my temps. Live and learn!

Anyway, only two of the first ten babies to hatch were albinos, which was disappointing, although the albino babies are really sweet. And when I checked this morning four more eggs had slit and three of those four were albinos, so maybe things will eventually even up (i've got about 25 good eggs, i think).

Here's one of the albinos. I'll post a few more pix soon.
