What should I do?

shadowmonkey01 Jun 14, 2004 12:36 AM

Today my leopard gecko was having a bit of trouble shedding his foot skin so I soaked him in a shallow water bowl like I do when my snakes have trouble. I just got her a few days ago. Anyways my question is it looks as though she has had trouble in the past and one of her toes was turning dark and when I soaked her the skin came off just fine but it looks like the whole tip of her toe came off too. Is this possible and if so what do I do. Will it grow back?

What likely happened is the dead skin cut off circulation to the toe, causing it to die. I would HIGHLY recommend a vet check to prevent any infection from taking over the entire limb or leo. A humid hide is also a must.

I also recommend a vet visit. I have a gecko missing a half of one of her toes. She came to me with a severe skin infection secondary to exactly this problem of toe skin not coming off. Until you can get her to a vet, you can gently rub some neosporin or antibiotic ointment on the toe. In the future, try to soak her within a day or two if there is still skin on there. Sometimes I wipe just a very little mineral oil on the toes, too. This can help lubricate it to come off.
Good luck!
