INFLAMED SCALES --------- ANY INFO PLEASE ? Help !

morgans boas Jun 14, 2004 12:45 AM

Well,a couple of months ago, I noticed my female, het for albino, had a very swollen scale. I took her to the vet --she belongs to the local herp society, and keeps a nice collection herself. Her and her assistant hadn't seen this before, and wanted to wait on a biopsy to see if it was going to spread or go away. Well tonight she had her second shed since first noticing it , and there are a few more. They are all on the under sides, and lower half of her sides. It looks like some dry scabby scales, but just after shedding, they are raw, and swollen meaty/puffy, and irritated looking. Tomorrow I'm making another appointment, but was wondering, since she(the vet) hasn't seen this before, if anyone has had to treat this before, and what the outcome was?
My friend is suggesting that I give her Iodine baths, but I'm not into experimenting unless others have had sucess. Please help if you can. Thanks

........may want to do and ask your Vet to do. She, the Vet would want to lance the swollen scale(s) or sore(s) and drain the puss out. You would then want to rinse them with a diluted Betadine solution and then pack them with Silvidine cream daily. The Silvidine cream is great for burns or healing of open sores. If they are open sores with bacteria, it may be spreading externally and will cause more sores down the body. I once had a boa with an external bacterial infection that was bathed daily in a diluted Betadine solution and the open sores packed with Silvidine cream and she made a great recovery.
This is what I have done in the past for any infectious sores, blisters or abscesses and it worked well. Hope this helps.
Good Luck,
