Pietschmanni care???

mickejswe Jun 14, 2004 05:29 AM

Hi!

I recently got 2.0 U.pietschmanni, im wondering how you keep them. Temps, moisture, etc etc. Just the basic care, now im keeping them like i keep my sikoraes in the low 70´s and the temp drop to about 64-66 at night. I feel that i maybe should keep the pietschmanni´s a bit warmer, what do you that keep pietschmanni think???

Best regards

Michael,
I keep my pietschmanni at around the mid to upper 70's during the day and dropping to the mid to upper 60's at night. The humidity is around 70%-80% during the day and then rising to close to 100% at night. I have contacted Bill Love and he says that they come from the same forests North East of Tana(captitol or madagascar) that both sikorae and phantasticus live in. The reason that I keep mine at a little higher tempretures than both these species are kept is that Neil Meister said that they seemed to do better when kept at slightly higher temps. But its your call the the majority of people i have contacted, Gecko King, Geckos by Brad, Intense Herpoculture, Reptile Depot, and Aquariumstuffers all said that they do fine when kept like sikorae.
Hope this helps,
-Matt

i got the same advice from neil meister to try keeping them at temps a tad higher than other uroplatus. what i did is i made a nice gradient in the tank, upper 70's near the top and cooler to the low 70's near the bottom. i started off keeping them at 72 most of the day, but they have done just as well with the higher temperatures. one note: neil told me its a better idea to keep these guys a lil dryer than other uroplatus. i am experimenting with making plexiglass lids with holes cut to keep the humidity more constant than a simple screen top. helps keep things a lot more steady, but still no mating from the trio that ive noticed (even though my females are really fat!). good luck!
