Run a Round with Post Office---long vent

Drakosmom Jun 14, 2004 10:31 AM

Last week I ordered crickets from wormman--I have orderd from them before...They shipped out the crickets Tuesday. They arrived at our Post Office on Thursday for Friday Delivery--As you know the Post Office was closed Friday for Regan's funeral.

When our mail arrived Saturday afternoon our mailcarrier had decided NOT to deliver the crickets! He choose instead to give me a "pink" slip for pick up at the post office today (Monday). When I picked upt the box I saw no movement--only dead bodies (see through vent holes on box). I actually got to speak with the carrier. He said that he had tried to call me--1st lie as we were home all day, then he changed his story to "your number is unlisted", lie #2 we ARE listed! Now he changes his story again and told me that my number was not in the phone book. He hands me a phone book and asks me to look. I take one look at the cover and throw the book back at him. IT was over 2 years old and we have only been in town 18 months! (I have been contacted by the postoffice here before--like when our lizard came in last year...no problems). He then changed his story yet again and said that he did not know if we were going to be home and since the box was labeled "live specimens" he thought it was better that they be picked up by me--he "did'nt know what was in the box". (I think he was just creeped out by the bugs!) He also said that since it was not insured he could not do anything about it...I took the box and left.

When I got home I was surprised to find almost all of the crickets were alive! Wormman had packed in an extra potatoe slice just in case!

I'm glad it was just a cricket order and not a baby dragon! I'm writing a formal letter of complaint to the postmaster.

BTW... the box was labeled with a USPS label "DO NOT DELAY DELIVERY". When I pointed that out to our carrier he shrugged and said "I didn't see that"--IT was over almost half the box!

sheesh...

ANYTIME something live or fragile is shipped through USPS is is in peril. I have known people who shipped animals through USPS and they are always late which means they are frequently dead. If I had a vent on this topic though it would be about your supplier. I have ordered from them numerous times and only once have they ever gotten my order right the first time.Usually they fix it, usually, but its always such a hassle with them I decided to quit using them. OK there's my vent.
