What kind of alien insect is this? Off the subject...

What is it? I almost leaned against this thing this morning when I was throwing out the trash. Being new to Texas I thought one of you may be able to identify this. Yes I thought I saw everything there is that crawls or flys but this thing gives me the heebee geebees............Uck!!

Ahhhhh an easy one.. Thats a male Dobson fly. Believe it or not, that ugly fella cant bite, the female on the other hand has much smaller mandible and can give a nasty pinch. The larvae are aquatic, commonly called "hellgramites"
