The "Ivory snapper"

turtsandtorts Jun 14, 2004 01:04 PM

Here are some pix of my male common snapper I am selling. As you can see he is a neat turtle! The pic doesnt look too great, but I tried to show the contrast with a normal common snapper on his shell.

That's a great looking turtle, the ghostly apperance is unique. If I were you, I would keep that guy around and try to breed him, just to see if his apperance is genetic, if it is, you could be onto a new "phase craze". Christy

How big is that guy?
It looks to me, that this guy has not seen enough sun/bad water quality/high water temp and this made him this light coloured, he is not a real leucistic specimen.

Hey,

This turtle was wild caught at 3 inches long, and has been raised in captivity for over 10 years now. He is a proven breeder, and the babies are carrying his genetics. They are het, as the trait is not dominant, it is a recessive, or underlying trait that is only shown when two
alleals of the same are crossed.

Husbandry info:
Housed in unfiltered sunlight from 10AM - 8PM every day
Water PH - 6.8 - 7.2
Water temp - 76-78 in the day, with a slight drop at night
Water quality - water is changed at least once a day with filtered, and aged water

That turtle doesn't look to be leucistic or in bad shape or anything. But I wouldn't label it the "Ivory Snapper" it looks more like a hypo snapper to me. Good luck with it though.
