Clear Liquid?

DancingBunny18 Jun 14, 2004 01:10 PM

Hello, my friend just got her first leopard gecko the other day and she said when she tried to pick it up it spayed a clear liquid(she said it was like water) all over the glass. I have never heard of that, I didnt want to worry her, but do you think it could be a parasite??? or did she just squeeze him a little to hard????

Thank you!

The only time I have seen this behaviour before was when I brought one of mone to a vet for a checkup. The vet picked her up and the leo decided to pee all over her hand I can only assume because the vet was squeezing her while she checked for certain things. SHe also bit the vet when the vet tried to force her mouth open with her fingers to inspect. I was laughing the whole time....

I witnessed a similar event, except it was more of a clear gel-like substance. My two leos got into a minor scrap over who's turn it was over the mealworm dish, and one of the gecko sprayed about a 1/2 tsp clear blob onto the side of the coconut cave hideout. I'm wondering now if "she" isn't a "he" and wasn't leaving his "mark" or something. I too, haven't noticed any of the tell-tale male markings, however this gecko is still pretty young, so who knows! Anyone ever witness something like this? Thanks!

Its actually water...what would be part of their elimination of urates.. Many lizards and snakes will bathroom when handled a bit too roughly or in a way that frightens them....its a defense mechanism.. often times its enough to make a predator drop them. Its nothing to worry about at all.. the clear liquid with a thin consistancy actually is good. It means your gecko is very well hydrated and can afford to waste the water. Being a desert animal they'd be built to conserve water at all costs when its needed.
