Snake Escaped...

zhenchok Jun 14, 2004 01:57 PM

Well, I know how tired everyone is of these posts, but after 3 years of owning my snake, this eventually happened to me. I, like everyone else who has been lurking in these forums have ignored many of these posts thinking that it would never happen to me, well due to some carelessness I'm missing my only 3 year old 2000 gram female that I was planing on breeding next season.

She was housed in my basement where we keep a lot of boxes and junk. I tried feeding her the night before, and when she didn't eat I took the mouse out without making sure her cover was securely latched. Well last night while trying to feed her again, I realized she was not in her setup. I looked everywhere and through everything until 5 am this morning, and looked for another hour during my lunch break today. I even had a friend help me look for her last night. I know that there are many nooks and crannies in my basement but I still can't find her. Before leaving back to work today, I put a mouse in to a small critterkeeper, and put the mouse into a dark corner of the room, I'm hoping that she will try to go and stay in the box. I'm just so upset over this whole thing, and hope to get her back alive.

Can any one give me some advice that worked for them, Thanks, Dave.

A 2000 ball python isn't going to go far especially in a basement with only 1 way out. She will not be out in the open. She is going to be in the darkest place she can find. If all else fails turn down the thermostat and put several heat pads around your basement.

Unfortunately my basement is around 2500 square feet. She escaped in the room where we store stuff it's a huge size room and there are two doors that have about an inch of space underneath that she could have crawled under. I'll deffintely try the heatpad Idea. Thanks, Dave.
