Wild Caught Garter Shedding

Buddy25 Jun 14, 2004 02:07 PM

Hey all, well here's the deal.
I was mowing the lawn, and AWW there was a big fat bufo americanus(Aka:American Toad)! Thank-goodness I saw the fat little blob, and was able to pick him up, and put him in a bucket for releasing to my local creek, farther from danger instead of hitting him into many toady bits :S(I would never mow again lol!)

So, after mowing the lawn I took the little guy, and walked to my creek to release him. I had him in my hand and :O a large common garter!(Sorry, I live in Southern, Ontario, Canada(Exciting for me, lol. A snakes a snake)Right away I could tell he was soon to shed, as the giveaway of the milky eyes.

So, I took him home as I know he will shed soon, and I want his shed skin(DOH, I SUCKED UP MY LAST SNAKE SKIN IN THE VACUUM.)(I will release him as soon as he sheds his skin)(Don't worry I know a good garter setup).

On closer inspeciton I noticed a healed wound. Its like an "outer ridged" healed over cut(Sorry its hard to explain, but looks like it could affect the garters shed). It looks as if a cat, or raccoon attempted to eat the lil one. Will this affect him in his shed in any way, and is there anyway I could maybe help his shed go a little easier with him, and his rough, external, outer healed wound?

Thanks for listening,
Steven

Some of my snakes that have had wounds just shed them off. Over time, the old wounds generally just appear faintly as scars as they just keep shedding the old layers of skin off until the wound is pretty much not visible (depending on the size/depth of the wound).

And the sign says "No long hair freaky people need not apply." So I put my hair under my hat and I went in to ask him why. He said you look like a fine outstanding young man I think you'll do. So I took off my hat I said "Imagine that Huh Me working for you."-Tesla
