Anoles and frogs?

walkerman Jun 19, 2003 11:38 AM

How about a large tank with a few anoles and a few tree frogs or FBT? They should rarely come in contact since the tank is 50 Gal. I have seen mixed set ups That have been successful, yet people are always saying it will not work. Why are so many people against it. It is a beautiful sight to behold.

Yeah i keep a toad in with my two anoles. The anoles mainly stick to the branchs and plants. The only time one has ventured to the ground was when the female laid. But since the toad stays on the ground they never see each other unless i remove the decor for feeding. even then they do fine. in fact the male anoles often hitches a ride on the toads back. its fine in my opinion. go ahead.

I had some toads in with some anoles once.. and the toad ate one of my smaller anoles.. best advice make sure that the toad is small and the lizards bigger.. keep in mind how huge frogs and toads mouths are. Make sure you keep the tank really well plants and lots of climbing space. Keep an eye to make sure the toad is well feed and not big enough to eat an anole. Good luck

dont take our advice in the frog forum. if you have ever kept firebellys you would know they are eating machines, can stress out both animals, and give off toxins. once again, as mentioned the the thread(s) below. FBT and anoles are from different countries with totally different needs.

Please don't do that. While it's fine for the anoles, anoles are not fine for most tree frogs, any that are compatible. And fire-bellied toads are toxic (so are other toads, but I don't think a regular toad would secrete poisons toward an anole).

What kind of anoles are these? Keep in mind that males of most species are VERY territorial and attack all kinds of things, so this has to be something that can fend for itself toward males. I'm sure you can find something that would actually thrive in there with them, but tree frogs certainly won't. And FBTs will probably kill the anoles with time. Good luck with what you end up doing, though
