housing igs 2gether

HerpGirl Jun 19, 2003 11:40 AM

is the only way to house igs 2gether is if they are the same size? some1 wants me to take an adult ig but i dont no if they can because im supposed to keep it with my juvie. i may be able to talk my mom into letting me put ANOTHER cage in my room(i already have over ten)(lol i have so many i had to get rid of my bed!) but if its an adult female will it attach my young ig? i cant tell if mine is male or female yet but there are hardly any femoral pores... but that may just be because he is little. his body is only about half a foot but his tail is longer than his body. this other ig is about 3 years old and they dont want it anymore.. i no that at least if i take it it will be taken care of. but the main question is: even if it is a different sex is it possible to house them in the same environment(large and well planted)

You are looking for trouble if you cage an adult with a juvie...dont do it...it is very few igs that will accept another one in their environment...best to let your friend find a home where his ig can be alone...good luck...Lyn

I agree!! Even if the larger iguana does not attack the other it will most likely dominate over it. Meaning the smaller one will not be able to get as much or any food even if you have separate food containers. The smaller one will also not be able to get to proper basking heights because the other will take them over. Also it can cause great stress to the smaller if not both of them. This can result in sickness and even death!
