Safest/Best Brand of Heat Pad? maximum temp 75-85 F

dumbblonde Jun 14, 2004 05:27 PM

What is the best/safest brand of heat pad in the market today? I dont want the heater to get too hot because I am planning on keeping a corn snake in the cage. Which means the cage needs to be around 75-85 degrees F.

Here are some examples:
Zoo Med
T Rex
Exo Terra
...or any other ones you know about.

To my knowledge all the UTH want you to hook them to a thermostat/dimmer switch/rheostat. I haven't bought one in a while but last I read the directions they all said to use them in conjunction with a controller. Of your list...I don't care for the Zoo Meds as they seem to get hotspots. Haven't tried T Rex but do like the Exo Terras. They are gonna get to 135 unregulated though.

I have used T-Rex Cobra heat mats and they are awesome. They work great and I don't use any thermostats. I just plug them into the wall. I think they run 100 F. That is warm enough to do the job for me and cool enough not to melt the cages. Go with T-Rex. You won't be disappointed.

I use human heating pads from Target or Wal-mart and they've worked great for me. You can fold them, they don't stick to anything, they come with they're own temperature control, and they're cheap compared to the other reptile UTH's.

I honestly don't think it matters on what heating pad you buy, either from the pet store (more expensive) or a heating pad from target. The most important thing is that you need a controller for the heating pad, to regulate the temperature. Some of the heating pads at the pet store come with a controller, but the price is ridicules. I have a California King snake and it does very well with a zoo med heating pad and with a controller (dimmer for lamps) purchased at home depot. Good Luck
