thekidgecko Jun 14, 2004 06:57 PM

One of my leo has had runny stools and passes but does not digest food. Exactly the same when they come out. Her fat stores are done to next to nothing and need to bring her back soon. She is my little brothers gecko and I really don't want her to die since he just lost his chameleon. Is it gastro Intestinel? If so what medicine to treat it and what dose for a 26gram gecko. Please help me!

I feed her young crix. Taking her to vet tommorow and am going to try to get some flagyl or panacur. I think it's nematoads. The weird thing is is she passes food and it looks exactly the way it did when it went in.

It could be parasites. You need to see a vet and try to get a facl one to see what it is, so it can be treated with the correct medicine.

What you're seeing is most probably regurgitated food.. not poo. If yhour gecko were processing it her digestive system would be breaking it down. When it comes back up.. that does happen.. and can be from many things... internal parasites or improper temps for digestion... possible impaction... etc etc. Give us some details on your setup... Temps.. Substrate number of hides.. other tank mates.. etc..

I keep her in a rubbermaid rack system and have seperated her from the breeding group when she started losing weight. I keep her on paper towels and feed her primarily crix but occasianly feed mealworms. She regurgitated some wax worms I fed her to get her to try to put on some weight. For a hide box I use a butter tub cut in half and turned upside down with an access hole cut in the side. I give her a humidity box filled with moist vermiculite when she is gravid (no longer) or about to shed. I offer water three to four times a week. Lately more because she is very thirsty, thas why I think it is nematoads. I dust crix with calicum powder every now and then, but I just ran out and need to get some more. I also gutload feeders with fish flakes, high quality dog food, kale, and high calcium Flukers cricket chow. I got her from gecko guy when he was getting out of leos he gave her and another to me. The other one is the healthiest biggest gecko I have, so I doubt was a colony thing.

First off.. with any sick animal you need to keep a supply of fresh water available to them at all times... Dehydration is the biggest factor to ward against with sick animals especially reptiles. It fuels their immune system.. all chemical reactions and just about every other major function of the body. So thats one thing you can do... The second... Go to the store and buy some pedialyte (either powdered or liquid) some Vanilla Ensure.. Chicken baby food.. and Centrum Vitamins. Now.. Per jar of baby food.. you want 1 crushed centrum vitamin...1/2 the can of vanilla ensure (3 or 4 ounces) 2 ounces of pedialyte and if you can get ahold of it a Caloric supplement called Jumpstart made specifically for reptiles.. You can get it online at herpsupplies.com for less than $10 total including shipping. Mix in about a 2 inch long string of that stuff (It comes in a sort of stiff gel in a tube) in a blender and pour the mixture into ice cube trays... You want to feed 3 mL twice a day of the mixture to the gecko if she'll take it. Get a baby medicine syringe 3mL is about a teaspoon of the stuff. Freeze whats in the ice cube trays and take out a fresh cube every day. (This helps prevent too much wastage) I swear by this mixture... it brought my Tangerine Albino female back from virtually looking like a walking skeleton in less than 3 weeks. Check her temps.. boost them up to ambient of about 87 and belly heat of 91 or 92... This will also aid her immune system. And yes do take her to the vets for a checkup...If she has parasites this mixture will also help her put weight back on after they're cleared up. Offer insects too just in case she'll eat them.. don't make her chase crickets.. try mealworms and waxworms once in a while.
