not worms!

jeune18 Jun 14, 2004 07:50 PM

so today i had to take helga, my uro, to the vet because she had rice looking worms in her poo. well she has tapeworms and the vet fixed her right up. i am concerned for the collareds because they spent so many days in the car in a small cage with a tiny wall separating them and helga. my mom said that tape worms are only passable if the poop is injested, is that true in the lizard world too? should i just keep an eye on their poo? should i be concerned about my pregnant ivan?

i thought helga was getting fat and doing better and here she has worms and was LOSING weight! i have never seen anything in her poo before and they caused her to lose 22 grams. she loves to drive me nuts

The tape worm eggs are ingested, then the lizard will become infrected. What is seen in the feces is small separated segments of the whole worm. Each segment that comes from the feces is called a proglotid, and contains all the eggs. When the segment dries out, the eggs are released and can become more scattered. Your vet may give you something for all your lizards if you tell him they were in close proximity.
