BURMESExROCK Pythons

HERPSKEEPER Jun 14, 2004 08:07 PM

Hello,
Just some back round,

My name is steven and iam new to kingsnake.com I spend most of my time over at www.azreptiles.com . I have been keeping snakes for about 6 years. In the last 3 years i have been mostly keeping pythons. This is my first year breeding snakes, the snakes i choose to breed were burms, but i had a rock python get mixed into the flow of things and had some questions for you all.

I had a 11ft male rock python mate with a 12ft burmese python, and was wondering what the offspring would be and if there was a special name for this type of hybrid?

Thanks,

Steven

While this cross is not technically a hybrid, herpers have bred the RockXburmese for decades and some dishonest breeders sold them as pure rock pythons.

Last I checked Rocks and Burms were distinct species.

Whatever happened to your dumbocolumbo project?

Yes, species to species is a hybrid. Subspecies to subspecies is not.
Someone had a good list on the kingsnake forums a while back that differentiates what a hybrid is . Wish they could post it here as a sticky.

The dumerlasXcolumbian was just some infertile masses.

that Rock x Burm is a hybrid because they are different species... Sebae and Molurus.
