Hello everyone...

Hello everyone,

I am an amateur herpist and have been recently think about a CP. I would love to hear everyone's input on their favorite varieties. I will be looking for a bright yellow one (me and the rest of the world). Hopefully it will work out...

What varieties usually result in the most black/yellow contrast as adults?

Thanks for the inputs everyone!

Jungle Carpet pythons are the yellow and black variety. They are small to mid sized for carpets (maxing at 4-6ft), and are very popular...The only issue I'd warn you about is that sometimes hatchling JCP can be tough to get eating and you want to start them on rats from the get go as they can 'impress' on food. If you feed it mice as a hatchling there is a chance it could be inclined to only eat mice for the rest of its life. Kinda a pain and its an expensive way to feed a 6ft snake.

2 Good places to go for top quality JCP's:
Will Leary at http://www.reptilicusreptiles.net/
Adam Willich and Matt Turner at http://www.selectiveorigins.com/

Hope this helps,
Darci

Sounds like that you would want a Jungle Carpet. If you are willing to wait a few weeks (or a month or so) many breeders will be having hatchlings.

1.0 Elaphe Vulpina Gloydi - Eastern Fox Snake
0.1 Leucistic Elaphe Obsoleta Linheimeri - Texas Ratsnake
1.1 Morelia Spilota Cheyni - Jungle Carpet Python

I had a JCP in mind and the waiting time is fine!

The reason I posed my question was that I am unfamiliar with Diamond and Irian Jaya varieties, and wanted to ensure there was no particular reason to get one of thos instead.

So far I have seen JCPs from $75 to $375...

As they say where I am from "Good ting no cheap, cheap ting no good", but "Money doesn't grow on trees" so I will wait around and see what becomes available!

If either of you hear of a great deal on an '04 JCP with good lineage, and can pass it up - you can usually find me in the Brazilian Rainbow Forum.

Thanks for the help and have a good one!
