Well, I finially switched them over!

Heather Jun 15, 2004 06:38 AM

I finially got my 3 geryis set up in a 125gal tank. I have them on a soil mixture (Clay, Sand, Potting Soil, Vermiculite)that's about 5 inches deep. Well, they've been in this new house for about a week now and I have several tunnels running through out the tank! I still have to raise the basking temp (trying to figure out how at the moment) But They're doing quite well. I'll get pics one of these days, I'll especially try to get pics of a tunnel.

we get basking temps well into the 150's by using small wattage Halogen FLOOD lamps (usually 45 watts, from Home Depot) and an elevated basking spot. check out the link for info on basking stacks, an easy way to achieve a good elevated basking spot, with a great descending temperature zone

just a quick pic of what a stack looks like, you make it the proper thickness and elevation for your particular animal and application. for hiding spots, remember that tighter is better, so make them just thick enough for the animal to "wedge into the crevice"...

Thanks for the ideas! At the moment One of their basking spots is a rock cave that's half burried and the other (I only have two at the moment, I plan on giving them at least one more)Is a pyrmid of rocks That I found outside and cleaned up for them (The rocks are the basking area from their old cage). I'll see if I can't get some wood to try your idea (though I'm horrible at building things...)or see if I can't find something similar around somewhere. Right now, the rocks reach about 100-115 and the rock cave/basking spot reaching 155-120... Maybe if I raised them up closer to the lights? Hmmmm You got me thinking now of how I can do that... LOL
