Hi, as the end of the school year approaches I thought it would be neat for my sons Grade 5 class to meet his pet dragon. Any suggestions on how to do this? I've got a small transport container and he's a very sociable dragon. Just any heads up advice would be appreciated. He won't be spending the day there or anything. Just a little visit right first thing in the morning and then I'll bring him home. I'll take my Purell hand sanitizer with me just to make sure everyone has clean hands before and/or after they touch him (I'm not going to let the kids maul him---- i might take a 'hands off' approach but its a small class and i can kinda see how its going)Oh, the dragon is approx. 10 months old. Thanks in advance, L.

I think it would be okay to let them hold or touch it. Just don't let them crowd in above it. Have them come up individually or in a line taking turns. Surrounding it and coming at it from above could be highly stressful. Dragons do great at shows around tons of people. You might want to give it a long warm soak before you go and try and get it to eliminate. You don't want a 5th grader getting dumped on. Have some paper towels just in case.

We do this on a regular basis www.beardiedragon.com/pages/Main/news.html
all good advice and you should plan on bringing some Purell along for before and after every kid touches your BD. In addition to petting him you may want to just let him crawl on their shirts or heads they usually like that. Just ask for a volunteer of the bravest kid in class and put your BD on his head. Stay close by at all times.

you can also bring a couple superworms so they can see him eat.

Thanks!! Great pictures of the Red Tegu "Fred" he looks awesome!, and yup, got lots of Purell around our house so I'll be sure to bring that. Luckily its a small farm community and alot of the boys have been to our house to meet "Eddie" already but there are still some that haven't and I think the teacher will like it too. We found a blue spotted salamader in March and kept it for a week and sent it to school for a day before we released it. All the kids were thrilled to see that so I'm sure the beardie will be a hit. Thanks again. L.

It's fun. Usually-- or at least for me when I took my lizards to my high school biology class-- some kids will be utterely.. resistant to touching them. *shrugs* I guess it depends on the maturity.

Anyways, you might want to soak him before you leave and hope he goes to the bathroom. I know I was very nervous when I brought my herps in, 'cause my male (as mentioned in my latest post) just randomly decides when he feels like going.. which is usually on /me/. o_o;

Also, it'd take some crickets or whatever and show them how he hunts. That's always fun. 8D

Good luck! Hope their class enjoys. n_n
