Possible infection on my female.

perley13 Jun 15, 2004 10:59 AM

Last week I got 2 collards male and female, the male ended up with mites but thanks to Eve's suggestion they are now gone.
Now I have a problem with my female Stella, this morning her left foot is swollen and there appears to be some bruising on the inside of it, it's red and blue. (not able to post pic not digital camera)
Is this something I should call a vet about or is it just a bruise.
She also seems to be staying off it so it must be painful any help thanks

I've had lizards with swollen feet and I mashed on it lightly and puss would come out. You might try this. Be sure to use some peroxide or something similar to clean it up after draining. Good luck and keep us posted.

can be so many things, Perley, She may have caught her foot on something and hurt it.

Or swelling can also be signs of Gout, or Metabolic bone diease.

Any bite marks, scrapes cuts, noticable?

I guess if it were me, I may soak it in Providine solution , hold her in it or use a cotton ball saturated with it and wring it out on the swelled area.

If no change, in a a couple days, I'd call your vet!

Always good to keep some things available for first aid, like the providine iodine solution (or Benadine) for infections and burns, cuts....

And always a MUST neosporin (or any triple antibiotic ointment)

I don;t really know what else to tell you without seeing it.

Maybe somebody else could suggest something more!

Keep your eye on it. Let us know how she is!

maybe try soaking in warm water for 10 min. Then I would clean with iodine/ Betadine or whatever you have along those lines. If there is any open wounds, I'd put Neosporin or TAO on it. I would wait a few days and see if it gets any better, if not I would bring to your vet. It seems like everyone is having probs with collareds this summer!

Good luck!

Laura
