Got my new baby today!

MrSickle Jun 15, 2004 11:31 AM

After 4 years of wanting a water monitor, I took the plunge (pun intended). I got this little guy (well, not as little as I thought it would be) from LLLReptile this morning, and I have to say WOW! I've seen dozens of pictures of waters, but they just don't compare to seeing them in person. It was quite calm with me, although, I've seen this before when I first got my Sav 3 years ago (and he was a little bastard for a few months until he got used to me) Along with my Sav, he'll have 2 older brothers, both Tegu's.
I'm pretty sure he was WC, and I'm taking it to the vet on Saturday with a good ol' fecal sample to check for parasites.
BTW, he's on paper substrate right now until I get him checked out, then the cage will be filled with cypress mulch. (I just had to cover myself on that aspect before someone starts flaming me for not having cypress mulch or dirt)

Excellent. I got Cooper (my juvi water) from LLL in early February. Good Luck and keep us updated. Suckers grow up quick.

i possibly have one of his/her brothers or sisters that i purchased thru LLLReptile and recieved May 26TH of this year and its also as impressive. I'll post pics eventually for i have yet to have contact with mine. I just opened the box, took out the bag and placed it in the enclosure and let it come out. I've just watched, fed and changed water so far but when i feel its ready for contact i'll post some good pics.

Have you had it checked for parasites yet? They don't mention wether or not it is WC (I'm assuming though)
This little guy wasn't so skittish when I got it out of the bag. He kept coming over to the door I had open while trying to take the pic, and I would just scoop it up with one hand and put him back in the cage. Last night, I layed on the floor in front of his cage while he was basking and he didn't run.
What was really great is I mixed some ground turkey, freeze dried crickets and some miner-all and came back a little later and it was gone! Now that's a good sign

I'd love to see some of those pics of it's sibling.

Actually they are wild caught animals and i spoke to the manager to confirm. He also told me that they didn't treat for worms/parisites at their facility and it would have to be done by a vet after purchase. But i have yet to take a fecal to my vet due to lack of time thus far but will be getting it done soon. My little guy or girl was eating the first day as well and has had a very healthy appetite ever since. Its very active and inquisitive and will eat pinkies from my hand as well as crickets and is very careful not to bite. I was pretty impressed as well when it arrived so i sent them an email expressing my gratitude for the health of the animal that they ended up posting on their site.
