mbreilly Jun 15, 2004 12:44 PM

I bought this snake at a show and its just a "type" but I wanted to know what locality it most likely is. Any guesses?

Just a guess Jaya, sorong, or aru. Much easier to tell in person. Once he changes you'll have a much better chance of comming close if not knowing what "type" he is.

Well, if you didnt pluck it or the parents out of a tree in indo, nore did your breeder you cant say. You can say, not many people are working with locality documented animals.

Read that, it will clear up some of the "Locality" stuff.

Julian is right, you can't say anything about the locality unless both parents are pure locality or if this is an import. If it is the latter, it is definetely a Biak.

However, if I understand correctly you don't know for sure.

Simply looking at the patterning and bodybuild, and you describing the long black tail, I'd say there is definetely a lot of Biak characteristics present. It's a beautiful little chondro! Congratulations!

Kind regards,

I'd have to disagree with the statement that if it's an import that it would have to be a Biak. Kameran imports several different documented "localities" from his breeding farm in Indo. As far as I know he's the only person legally doing so.
As for guessing "Type" not "True Locality" I'd vote for Sorong or Jaya. It's tale and pattern is similar to the mainland "Type", but we could all be wrong. It's definitely beautiful.

However, the chances of you or anyone bring right is unlikely, as you too just guessed as well.. Any of us would just guess.. I'm sure i could make and educated guess as well as most chondro enthusist.

However, the breeder of the particualar animal should know the liniage of that said animal. Its unfortunate that people have to ask "where do you think my animal came from".

Just another reason to only buy captive born chondros.

Not a jaya type. Jayas are known for having a pail tail color. Beautiful chondro any way you look at it.
