Brazilian Rainbow boa hasn't eaten since May 15th...

phiff1 Jun 15, 2004 12:57 PM

I've been told by a couple different people that the boa is in breeding mode. She is about 2 and a half years old and 4 and a half ft. long. NOthing has changed in her life other than the temperature increasing a bit this spring. Anyone had this happen to them? Any suggestions? Should I wait a little while before I take her to the vet?

You list exactly what husbandry you keep, example: hot side temp, low side temp, dimensions of enclosure, substrate, hides provided, lights provided, heat provided, region you are in, method of feeding, what you are feeding, etc., etc., etc,.

If you havent changed anything in the snakes husbandry you probably just have a boa that has gone "off-feed". It is a normal occurence that boas tend to go trough every few years. My breeders have done it several times in there life. I even had a boa that did not eat for almost 9 month. I wouldnt worry unless your snake stays off-feed for more then 6 months or starts looseing drastic amounts of weight(sign of parasites). Regardless get a fecal exam done, and if nothing shows up, keep trying to feed it and it will eat when it wants to.
