UTH and Rubbermaid Containers

jgika Jun 15, 2004 02:48 PM

Hi all-

i have a few new leos that have hatched and need a bigger enclosure. i know a lot of people use rubbermaid containers for leos. Can you use a UTH with those or will it melt the plastic?
If I get a rubber maid container how tall do the sides have to be so i do not get any escapees. Granted these are newborns but still...

Thanks for your help!

Jon

A lot of us that use rubbermaid containers do it in a rack system, and I personally use covers on mine (Mainly because I'm not that good of a carpenter and my rack shelves are not perfect-fitting). I had to drill holes in the sides for air, but oh well. If you do use an UTH, three words: THERMOSTAT THERMOSTAT THERMOSTAT. Do not even think about using one without it. I actually use flexwatt in my rack, and it doesn't get that hot anyway, but I still have a thermostat because it runs about 100 degrees. I would say for leo about 12 inches should be plenty, and put the hide and stuff in the middle so they can't use that for support to get out.
